Publishable summary:

The BACIPRO project aims to develop next-generation Bacillus-based bioproducts for sustainable applications in agriculture, cosmetics, and
household care. By combining advanced microbial engineering, fermentation, and nanoformulation technologies, the project targets the development
of environmentally friendly biopesticides and biosurfactants that replace synthetic agrochemicals and surfactants. Genetically enhanced Bacillus
strains will be engineered for high-yield production of antifungal lipopeptides (e.g., bacillomycin D), insecticidal proteins (e.g., Cry and Vip), and
biosurfactants (e.g., surfactin). These bioactives will be integrated with essential oils into nanoemulsions to enhance efficacy and stability. The project
also introduces scalable, zero-waste biorefinery models and decentralized production strategies to support local economies and reduce environmental
impact. Field validation will take place in both EU and LAC regions under real (field) crop conditions, targeting major pests and pathogens in various
crops, with emphasis on wheat and soybean systems. BACIPRO fosters EU-LAC cooperation, builds research capacity, and aligns with key
sustainability goals, including the EU Green Deal and SDGs, offering a holistic approach to innovation in the circular bioeconomy.
