Monday, 25 May 2020

The 5th meeting of the EU-Latin America and Caribbean Working Group on Research Infrastructures took place on the 19th of May, 2020.

Although it was held remotely due to the coronavirus crisis, the participation was high.  A total of 40 representatives participated: 35 LAC delegates coming from 21 countries, 14 EU delegates from 13 countries, and 5 EC representatives.

The objectives of the meeting were to discuss the future Working Group on Research Infrastructures meetings, as well as the thematic areas, goals and expected outcomes of the 2 bi-regional workshops and 2 bi-regional webinars that will take place in the coming months.

The thematic areas more interesting for RI collaboration are: Health (with coronavirus specially underlined), Biodiversity and Climate Change, Food Security, Emerging Technologies and Energy.

During the meeting, the achievements of the H2020 funded project EU-LAC ResInfra were presented by Inmaculada Figueroa, from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, as its coordinator. The project, expected to support the WG RI and to enhance the RI collaboration between the EU and LAC countries, is developing 4 RI Pilots lead by RICAP, INSTRUCT-ERIC, LIFEWATCH-ERIC and E-RIHS. With the goal of being more efficient in the use of available and public resources, it will be analysed how these Pilots can contribute to the  pre-selected areas for the webinars and workshops in the framework of the WG RI.
